XX Commonwealth Games

The XX Commonwealth Games 2014 has inspired the Bangladeshi community in Glasgow to enjoy and gain benefits from sports organised by Bangladesh Association Glasgow (BAG)

The event was a great success where around 60 people came together and participated in different sporting events. Children of different age groups took part in races. Girls aged between 4-9 years took part in a 50m race and the participants were: Arriana, Aara, Soha, Shoilee, Sarana, Shara, Joyah, Tahera and Shukonna. Arriana won this race with Soha in 2nd position and Shukonna in third. Girls aged between 10-14 years took part in a 100m race and participants were: Tahiya, Tanisa, Sama, Sara and Naomi. Sara won the race with Naomi in second position and Sama in third position.

4-9 years old boys also took part in a 50m race and participants were: Arian, Arman, Rori, Rehan, Kaiser, Wasif, Shirsha, Aryan and Rajin. Rajin won the race with Rehan in 2nd place and Rori in third place. The boys aged between 10 -14 years took part in a 100m race and participants were: Sami, Simon, Ihfaz Mahdi and Amir. Sami won the race with Simon in second place and Amir in third.

Children as young as one and half years participated in a 20 meter race, showing their shear thrill. The participants were: Aila, Adiyan and Jaiyanna.

There were events for adults such as ‘Sack race’, ‘Egg and Spoon race’ and ‘Tug of war’.

The event allowed the community to get together and have some fun. BAG would like to send thanks and appreciation to everyone who came and made this event a great success. Due its success, BAG plan to organise more events like this in the future.
